Italy Appoints New Military Chief Of Staff

The Italian government has named procurement head Gen. Biagio Abrate as the next military chief of staff, replacing Gen. Vincenzo Camporini when he steps down on Jan. 17.
A general in the Italian army, Abrate, 61, has served as procurement chief for the Italian military since January 2010. Previously he was head of the ministerial cabinet at the Ministry of Defense under three successive defense ministers starting in 2006.
Camporini, a former Italian air force chief, was named military chief of staff in November 2007.Between October 1999 and November 2000 he commanded the Italian army Taurinense brigade, and in 2000 he ran the NATO Multinational Brigade West in Kosovo.
