Arab TV reporter asked to remove bra at Israel event

Arab TV reporter asked to remove bra at Israel event

A reporter of Al Jazeera TV who refused to remove her bra at the security check was denied entry at an annual event for foreign journalists addressed by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The pregnant woman was asked to remove her bra as part of a security screening to be allowed to the event, reports Press Trust of India.

Najwan Simri Diab, 31, told news portal Ynetnews that she was asked to stand in the queue with other journalists on arrival at the venue.

"We waited for half-an-hour and saw more Arab journalists joining our queue. In fact, they created a queue for Arabs and a queue for other journalists," she was quoted as saying.

Being pregnant, and consequently unable to stand for long, she told the guards about her condition. She was then told to sit down.

The security officials later took her downstairs and asked her to remove her clothes. "I was left with just my undershirt and trousers, without my shoes and the rest of my equipment," she said.

But the checks only got more extensive and she was asked to remove her bra.

"I asked why, but the female officer insisted. Her supervisor came over later and insisted as well. I refused and she said, 'So you won't go in,'" the reporter said.

She approached the Government Press Office Director Oen Helman, but was told that the screening was done as directed by security agency Shin Bet.

Al Jazeera crew boycotted the event.
