K-15 missile test soon--Indian Defence

Another test-fire of the experimental K-15 missile is being scheduled by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missiles will be fired from a pontoon of the coast of Visakhapatnam.
The K-15 rocket has been developed under the Sagariak project and it has undergone through a couple of test firings from submerged pontoons.
The goal of the pontoon is to simulate the conditions of a submarine so it will be positioned around 10 to 20 metres below the sear surface. A gas-charged booster will be used to drive the two-stage missile to the surface. During the first stage, the missile will ignite and climb to approximately 20km in the air before cutting a parabolic path and traveling more than 700km. to reach its target.
The K-15 is a truly unique missile which is still under construction. It is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads which make this projectile an important part of the lethal arsenal of India’s first nuclear-powered submarine, Arihant, which is currently being tested in open sea. Two more submarines of this type are currently being built in India.
The DRDO is also developing a K-4 underwater-launched missile which will have a huge range of approximately 3,000km. The K-4 has also been fire-tested from pontoons using the same gas-booster that has been used for the firing of the K-15 rocket.
The DRDO has also developed a interceptor missile which is in the final stage of testing. It is scheduled for this missile to be tested during February. Its goal will be to intercept a modified Prithvi missile. The “enemy” missile will be fired from a Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.source
