Jeddah Civil Defense evacuates old crumbling building--Arab Defence News

JEDDAH: An old three-story building was evacuated after two of its balconies crumbled in Jeddah’s Bab Shareef near the Balad area.
Maj. Gen. Adel Al-Zamzami, director of the Civil Defense in Makkah province, told Arab News that at least 45 people were evacuated in case the building’s structure deteriorated further. He said there were no injuries.
“The building is old and seemed to be in bad condition. It contained nine apartments and had 11 shops attached to it,” said Al-Zamzami.
Civil Defense staff arrived shortly after a phone call from one of the building’s residents who reported that cracks on the building exteriors were deepening. Officers set up a perimeter and banned people from entering the building, which housed no families.read more
